Natural Remedies for Insect Bites
Insect bites and stings are painful and certainly unwelcome and it would seem that they are hard to avoid. Even if only sitting out in our own gardens there appears to be a multitude of insects waiting for the mere glimpse of exposed skin so that we can become the next tasty snack.
It may seem that we have to put up the nasty side-effects of life with insects but in reality, there are a few things that we can do to prevent being bitten and having to wait for the reaction to the bite to run its course. There are many over the counter insect repellents which work fairly successfully and there are numerous insect bite relief creams, gels and sprays, but there are some alternative and natural options which are readily available if you prefer this natural approach such as:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Wipe apple cider vinegar directly to the skin and this will prevent any insects coming near to you.
Bananas
If having been bitten, then use the inside of a banana skin and rub directly onto the bite. Banana skins are renowned for easing the irritation and reducing an inflammation.
Baking Soda
Baking soda works extremely well when applied to bites. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply direct. Leave to dry and then remove. Can be reapplied when necessary.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a wonderful and very useful essential oil to have around the house. It has antiseptic compounds which help when applying direct to insect bites or stings.
Homeopathic Remedies
For reducing pain, inflammation and stinging, use Apis Mallifica 30c For Bee stings use Cantharis 30c
Lavender Essential Oil
Apply directly to the bite or sting for quick relief.
Lemon Essential Oil
Mix lemon oil (1-2 drops) with one teaspoon of honey and this will help to prevent any infection when smearing around the bite.
Meditation
When experiencing minor reactions to bites, meditation can be used to calm the sufferer down and so produce feelings of calm. It can also be used to accelerate inner healing so that the body starts to fight off any adverse reaction to the bites.
