Measles is a very common childhood disease and most children across the world suffer from the disease at some point. It is highly infectious so care should be taken to not infect others and it is important that the child receives plenty of rest so as to be able to start to fight off the infection.

It takes about seven to fourteen days for the virus to begin to show after the initial exposure and early signs can be watery eyes, a dry cough, a cold and some feverish symptoms. The rash tends to appear on the sides of the face and neck and then begin to spread down over the body. The spots start off by being pink in colour but gradually the colour deepens as time goes by.

Unpleasant side-effects are fever and diarrhoea; occasionally the child may develop a high fever and become delirious as a result. Sometimes complications arise such as bronchitis, pneumonia and even abscesses can develop in the ears.

Measles are a very unpleasant condition and the infection can be easily passed to others in the early stages through the moisture distributed by coughs and sneezes.

There are some useful natural remedies which can aid the recovery of measles such as:

Oranges

Oranges are wonderful to help with the recovery of measles as it is the ideal food source/liquid because the digestive system is greatly impacted once measles has been contracted.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice can also help to quench the extreme thirst experienced by the measles sufferers, and it is important to keep up fluid intake.

Liquorice

Powdered liquorice coupled with honey is beneficial for soothing the cough that occurs with measles.

Ventilation

Ensure that the sufferer is kept in a well-ventilated room but that their eyes are shielded from any direct light as measles can make the eyes sensitive to light.

Meditation

Teach relaxation and meditation to the child on recovery as the gentle techniques can help to boost inner healing and so speed recovery. Try a guided visualisation so that the child can immerse themselves within the meditation and forget the discomfort.

Rest

Ensure that the child has plenty of rest and care throughout recover and is kept isolated from others so as not to pass the infection on
