Combat Hangovers with Natural Remedies

Who hasn't suffered the miserable feeling of a hangover at some point in their lives? We know that drinking too much will leave us feeling miserable, tired and irritable and very sorry for ourselves and yet for many of us, the temptation of alcohol can be too much to resist.

There are many symptoms associated with a hangover such as:

  • A dry mouth
  • Throbbing head
  • Drowsiness
  • Swollen or bloodshot eyes
  • Aversion to light
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness

Any one of these symptoms can be experienced through over indulging in alcohol when out with friends or family and the symptoms are unpleasant and can last throughout the following day. Some of the most obvious symptoms would be those of dehydration and it is this that causes the dreadful and consistent headache feelings. There are ways to avoid experiencing a hangover altogether, the most obvious being not to drink to excess of course, but being sensible and taking practical precautions will ensure that feelings of illness are not experienced the next day. For those people who do not heed warning, there are plenty of natural remedies which can help perk up the mind and body the following day:

Self-Help tips include:

Increase Fluids

Drink plenty of water before going out and also in between drinks throughout the evening. Finally drink water before retiring for the night as this will help to combat the dehydrating side- effects of the alcohol. When waking up in the morning, again consume plenty of water so that it consistently replaces the fluids and reduces dehydration.

Vitamin C

Increase Vitamin C by using tablets or effervescent drinks as Vitamin C helps to break down any alcohol left in your system.

Diet

Always avoid drinking on an empty stomach as the effects of the alcohol occur much more quickly, but by consuming food either before or during the evening, can help to reduce the speed in which the alcohol enters your blood.

Carbonated drinks

Avoid carbonated drinks as this can speed up the absorption of the alcohol.

Blended drinks

Blend a banana and 1 tablespoon of honey and half a pint of milk as this helps to correct the glucose in the body. It will start to work fairly quickly and will help you to feel more human.

Meditation

When feeling groggy and tired after drinking excessively, turn to meditation to help boost inner healing and get rid of the nausea and shakiness. Meditation as well as being soothing can help if used as part of a specific healing session. Focus on the head, stomach and liver area.
